About me:
Meet Henri.
Henri’s owner found our contact information through a prior adopter and reached out for help. From the start, we explained that our rescue was full and currently on an intake hold. We already have a short waitlist for chinchilla surrenders, but they understood and asked to be added.
The owner, who is over 70 and facing health complications, was willing to donate the cages and supplies and bring the chinchillas down when space became available. I explained that while extra cages help, our main limitation is space—we can only accommodate so many animals at a time.
Then, they mentioned Heidi, one of their chinchillas, had an injury. Her arm was crippled and bent. That changed everything. Injured animals take priority, so I made space in my personal work area and told them I could take Heidi in immediately.
When they arrived, Heidi was wrapped in a blanket with her favorite chew toy and water bottle. I suggested they keep the cage and supplies for their other chinchilla, who remains on the waitlist.
Heidi—who has been with this family her whole life—is a 14-year-old standard grey. Her arm was injured years ago, but since she never showed signs of pain, it was left as is. While we don’t condone ignoring medical issues, we can’t change the past—only the future.
Once I got her home and started cleaning her up, I quickly realized that Heidi was actually Henri! The real Heidi is still at home and on our surrender waitlist. I called the family to let them know, but for us, nothing changes—we’re still here to help Henri.
Henri has a vet appointment Thursday morning to assess his broken arm. We also noticed he's missing part of his tail. He’s a little dirty and has loose fur, but we understand—it’s been tough for his owner to keep up with his care.
For now, Henri is safe, warm, and getting the attention he needs. We’ll update everyone after his vet visit. Thank you to everyone who supports our rescue efforts—because of you, we can make space for animals like Henri when they need us most.
We desperately need to find homes for our adoptable Chinchillas to continue being able to open our doors to animals in need, like Henri. We have no room to bring in new animals. Please share our plea and encourage adoption.
To help with Henri’s medical bills, you can donate directly to Cali_FID Parrot and Exotics Rescue Sanctuary from the website www.califidparrotandexotic.com/donate
