Every year MILLIONS of animals are surrendered to local animal shelters, rescues, or even just found wandering the streets. Of those millions, several thousand are small exotic animals that need specialized care. Exotic rescues are few and far between, so it’s been a real goal of mine to help rescues where I can. In comes Cali_FID Parrot and Exotic Rescue Sanctuary in Modesto CA. Cali_FID is a legal 501(c)3 Non-Profit rescue organization. Their goal is to help remove small exotic pets from our shelter system and get them the immediate care they need as well as find them permanent adoption homes once they’re ready to leave their care.
I have been a volunteer foster home, coordinator, and event helper since I was just a high school student and now that I am a small business owner I still want to contribute in other ways, such as referring prospective homes to the rescue for their next pet.
Help Save a Life
If you have the time, resources, and space available to foster a chinchilla in need we would love to have a chat with you.
Fosters are the backbone of any small rescue organization. Without a network of volunteers willing to open up their homes to small pets… we simply couldn’t do it. Currently, CaliFID only has FOUR homes that can work with chinchillas. One is for emergencies only, which means emergency surrenders, emergency medical cases, or critical cases. The other three balance the bulk of surrenders, but we’re hoping to add new fosters to our team in the near future. Please reach out to us through our contact page to be directed to the rescue coordinator or head over to Cali_FID’s website to fill out a foster application.
Fosters get priority if they would like to adopt their foster pet. Let us know ahead of time if you would like to foster to adopt!
Enrich Their Stay
Another great way to get involved is by donating to the rescue.
We understand not everyone has time to volunteer or space to foster a new animal, but many people still want to help.
The rescue accepts monetary donations via the website: Cali_FID Donation OR you could contribute directly to the foster families who are caring for the chinchillas.
We have a rescue Chinchilla Rescue Wish List on Amazon that we use to help make the animals lives a little better while they wait for their second chance.
We also have items on the wishlist like temporary enclosures, water bottles, feed bowls, and just the basics like gift cards for feed or bedding so we can set up foster homes in a snap.
It shouldn’t need to be said but, we provide fleece accessories to the chinchillas in the rescue <3
Discounts
As a special thank you, we give the rescue’s adoptive homes a special one-time 20% off discount code when they take home their new pet.
We know getting started with a new pet takes some planning and we want to lessen that expense where we can.
The code is unique to each adoptive home and we’ll apply it retroactively if you’ve adopted a Chinchilla from Cali_FID in the past too, just reach out to us.
This discount code is also offered to our foster families, but we tend to gift them fleece cage accessories here and there anyway because there’s no way we can keep every prototype!
We just want every Chinchilla to be able to relax in a cozy hammock.
